Dear Mr Fitzsimons
Having read "Magnificent Men" a few years ago, I was disappointed to see the mention of Harry Hawker was light on. The exerts were taken directly from Muriel Hawkers work and there was no extra information about him.
The letter from Kennith Hope-Jones was very moving, however Harrys story has a lot more to it and the neglect of it is worse than just being forgotten.
Our research in the last eight years has uncovered stories of RAAF cover ups, Australians that were in the middle of the development of Aircraft Carries and the men that work on the Sopwith Camel with Harry Hawker.
The loss of his story in Moorabbin is nearly total and some of his memorials have over time been removed. If the name Hawker sparks a memory at all these days, it is the with the Hawker Hurricane and extended to the Hawker Harrier jump jet.
If there is a forgotten Australian in history, Harry Hawker is the saddest of them.
